The GM engineers are redefining the meaning of the word driving. For Chevrolet drivers, it no longer means keeping your hands at 10 and two or even keeping them on the wheel at all. With GM Super Cruise, drivers can go completely hands-free. Visit the team at Yoder Chevrolet to explore the Chevy models available with GM Super Cruise and everything that entails.
What is GM Super Cruise and how does it work?
If you want a glimpse of the future, test drive a vehicle with GM Super Cruise. Advanced driver assistance technology is as close as car owners today can get to self-driving cars. GM Super Cruise is a driving system that allows drivers to remove their hands from the wheel and take their foot off the pedals on certain roads in the United States and Canada.
How does Super Cruise work?
Super Cruise is the result of several driving systems working in tandem.
Super Cruise combines the functionality of these systems and builds upon them with LiDAR mapping, GPS, radars, and a network of cameras.
What is Lane Change On Demand?
On select GM models, Lane Change On Demand has been added to the Super Cruise system. This feature makes changing lanes as simple as engaging your turning signal. When Super Cruise is enabled, drivers can activate their turning signal. The system will then scan the adjacent lane, and when it is safe to do so, the lane change will be executed automatically.
Is Super Cruise the same as autonomous driving?
GM continues to improve the Super Cruise system with more features like the one above; however, it is still considered a semi-autonomous driving system and requires that the driver actively pays attention to the road and is ready to take the wheel in emergent situations.
What is Driver Attention Monitoring and how does it work?
Driver Attention Monitoring is included in the Super Cruise driving system and is responsible for ensuring that the driver is alert and attentive. It uses a camera located in the steering wheel along with facial recognition to assess whether or not the driver's level of attention. If it detects that the driver is not paying attention, it will issue three rounds of audio and visual alerts to get the driver to return their attention to the road. If the driver fails to do so, Super Cruise will slow down the vehicle, bring it to a complete stop, and then connect with OnStar to ensure the driver is safe.
Can Super Cruise Navigate around traffic obstacles?
No. Super Cruise cannot navigate around traffic obstacles or accidents. GM recommends that drivers refrain from using Super Cruise in certain conditions, where emergent obstacles are more likely. Those situations include:
Where can I use Super Cruise?
Super Cruise is currently authorized for use on 240 million miles of roadways spread throughout North America in the United States and Canada. The Super Cruise network is constantly expanding and will soon encompass all divided highways in the United States and Canada. If you frequently travel in and around Fort Lupton, you can enjoy using Super Cruise on Route 85.
